Tick Tock

Though I check everyone else's blog at least twice a day, it's been a long time since our last blog post.  Time for some internet blabbing!

First off, we're officially legally married!  It was a great evening shared with some old friends and new friends.  I got to smash cake in Brent's face, which is always enjoyable (for me, at least).
I really need to work on both posture and crying at weddings
After the marriage was recorded with the courts, I had an exciting time changing my last name to Brent's at about 175 different places.  The administrivia involved with this is a pretty good reason to have not blogged since forever.  I had to change my name on my passport, which also meant having to get a new Indian visa.  Considering so many babies that seem to be coming 6-10 weeks early and the amount of time it takes to process a new passport & visa, I was a bit worried that the baby would surprise us early and I'd be stuck here.  Fortunately my visa arrived today! (Dear unborn baby:  that's not a cue for you to do anything other than stay put for another 6 weeks minimum).

The holidays are officially over.  We spent Christmas with Brent's dad.  He brought lots of very cool baby things from his latest assignment in Peru.  This spoiled baby has things from 6 continents!  Our last New Years Eve sans kids was spent on the couch watching bad TV because I was sick (sadly, not from too much celebrating).

In other news, the nursery is 95% put together now!  That means that my office is no longer just an office with a crib in it and I've had to relocate my office into our living room.  This has sent us on a mission of house hunting (we didn't have enough going on).

The next blog post will hopefully be the latest scan, due next week, along with photos of the 100% finished nursery (minus baby).  Crazy that this is likely our last scan before we arrive in India!

We're now checking out flights, airfare, working with the embassy, etc.  SCI is recommending that we arrive 2 1/2 weeks before the due date.  How long before the due date did you arrive in India?

Thanks guys,
Charlie & Brent

  1. Congratulations on the wedding!!! I am so happy for you guys! I can't believe how close we are getting to baby pick-up. Make sure you check with Neha and find out what your official due date is - as it turns out mine was earlier than I thought. We are supposed to be in India by March 8 (unless babies decide to come earlier). When are you guys heading over? Hoping we get to meet up in India!

  3. Congratulations on your wedding - the bureaucracy that goes along with changing your name feels like it is never ending. As Ryan and Ruben said whatever your due date is well expect to arrive earlier get your house/hotel set up for baby....they always seem to arrive early. It's a wonderful time but remember Delhi is cold at this time of the year....we leave tomorrow and the last 3 days have been sunny but still cold at night - bring a warm coat and sweaters....they are very cheap to buy here. Best market in Delhi for baby clothes is Sanjorini Nagar market (but closed Mondays) All the best of luck

  6. Congratulations on your wedding! How exciting! We have a due date of 10th Feb but will have a c section between wk 37 and 39 I reckon he/she will be born around 22nd-30th January! Just my hunch. We arrive at wk 36+2 (Tuesday 15th) but we have complication of amniotic band. If you're worried maybe arrive 3wks before? So looking forward to seeing you there! Email me at roadtobaacom@gmail.com to arrange meeting or for anything else :-) x x

  7. Hi guys i am going to be with my girl Shakti Rose, and her hubby. I will be arriving the same time. But My c-section will be the day after I arrive, which I have asked for and my surrogate has said she is cool with it. Today is the first date of my due date and well my baby does not want to come out as of yet from what I have been told I was between Jan 12, to feb 1 so My baby can stay right where it is. If you can try get a medical visa, I got one since the Inida embassy said I had to get one because i am doing surrogacy. Oh yeah Congrats on your wedding. I am not getting married until its leagal in America with EVERYTHING Which I am hopeing it will happen with June I pray the US Supreme Courts side with us.

  11. By the way, you probably heard about the "medical" visa requirement guideline on surrogacy. We booked to arrive early April so anything could change again regarding the visa policy. Since you guys are one month ahead of us, we'll be keen on finding out your experience on exit visa for your baby. Thanks!

  15. Awesome guys! Watch out though, babies have little sense of timing. As you know ours appeared at 33 weeks, & our pregnancy was problem free until week 31, that's when they began knocking on the door, started giving our surrogate issues.

Sounds like your ready though. I had just finished getting the important stuff when ours arrived. When they're early they usually have to be in the NICU a week or two, so you'll still have some time. Thank God health care is so cheap in India. Our 8 day NICU stay which cost a few thousand would have easily been a couple of hundred thousand here.

Hopefully, they'll stay put. All the best to you both! Cheers!
